Buddies, Camps and Student Leadership

Buddy System and Camps

At Our Lady of Fatima School, we believe that strong connections help students feel valued and supported. Our Buddy System pairs older students with younger ones to foster friendships, build confidence, and create a sense of belonging across year levels. The following partnerships occur:

  • Year Six students buddy with Year Two
  • Year Five with Year One
  • Year Four with Pre-Primary
  • Year Three with Kindergarten.

These partnerships encourage leadership and compassion, while giving younger students a friendly face to guide them through their early school experiences. It’s a wonderful way to strengthen our community and ensure every child feels connected.

We also offer a rotating camp program for students in Years Five and Six, which provides students with unique and memorable experiences. One year, students participate in a combined Adventure Camp, designed to build teamwork, resilience, and independence. The following year, they enjoy a Surf Camp, which fosters grit and tenacity, encouraging personal growth and confidence, while continuing a long-standing tradition that is deeply valued within our school community. This two-year rotation allows us to continue offering high-quality, enriching experiences that are a valued part of the Fatima journey.

Leadership Information

At our Lady of Fatima School, students are eligible to nominate for and be elected to hold a position in the Student Leadership Group in Year 5 and/or Year 6.

The Student Leadership Group is formed with the intention of drawing on the variety of God-given gifts, strengths and character traits within our student body, and to recognise and develop their leadership capacity.

The Leadership Group provides a unique avenue for student voice and agency and encourage students to utilise their values, knowledge and skills to influence decision making, culture, community events and service opportunities at Our Lady of Fatima School and in our wider society.

We aim to support the leadership qualities in all students. The following targeted approaches are provided for our upper primary students:

  • In Year Five, all students participate in the Chevron Tough Stuff Program– an eight-week initiative designed to help students build resilience, confidence, and a strong sense of achievement. Guided by experienced facilitators, students participate in both physical challenges and mental coaching activities that encourage personal growth and perseverance. The program empowers students to discover their inner strength and celebrate their progress as they reach the finish line, ready to take on future challenges with courage and determination.
  • Our Lady of Fatima School proudly partners with Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and St Patrick’s Primary School to host a Joint Leadership Day for our Year Six students, providing a valuable opportunity for the students to grow as leaders. Throughout the day, students engage in interactive sessions with team from Zero to Hero, focusing on building resilience, self-awareness, and leadership skills. The program also includes time for students to reflect on their primary school journey and hear firsthand from past students who have successfully transitioned to high school.
