Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum

At Our Lady of Fatima School, we are committed to being a child safe organisation. Our students have the right to be safe and to be able to flourish in their learning and development. All members of our school community have a fundamental right to be treated with respect, and to learn and teach in a safe and supportive environment (CEWA, 2018).

Catholic Schools in Western Australia are mandated to teach the Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum (KSCPC), to all students from Kindergarten to Year 12. The KSCPC is embedded across the curriculum throughout the year, using a range of resources.

This developmental curriculum consists of two themes:

  • We all have a right to be safe
  • We can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust

These two themes are woven through the teaching of the four focus areas in each band:

  1. The Right to be Safe
  2. Relationships
  3. Recognising and Reporting Abuse
  4. Protective Strategies

Throughout the year, we share a range of tips and resources to assist parents and caregivers in understanding and supporting this curriculum at home.
