Religious Education and Faith Formation
“Religious Education is the first learning area in Catholic Schools in Western Australia (Bishops’ Mandate #61, 2009) and is central to the holistic development of students. Religious Education is about the teaching of the person of Jesus as understood and taught by the Catholic Church”.

Religious Education invites students into a deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic faith. Through cultural, systematic, and critical reflection, students explore how Christians are called to live in relationship with God and others. Students also learn how religion shapes values, influences behaviour, and contributes to the way people interact with the world around them.
Religious Education is an integral part of daily learning at Our Lady of Fatima School. From Pre-Primary to Year Two, students engage in 15 minutes of Religious Education each day, while students in Years Three to Six participate in 30-minute daily lessons. In our Three-Year-Old and Kindergarten programs, teachers thoughtfully plan and deliver quality learning experiences that nurture children’s spiritual development and raise their awareness of God’s presence in their lives.
Faith Formation
Catholic schools offer a rich and vibrant religious life, and at Our Lady of Fatima School, we are committed to nurturing the spiritual growth of every student. Through invitation and opportunities for daily prayer, meaningful liturgical celebrations, and the sacraments, students are invited to deepen their relationship with God. Our faith formation program encourages reflection, compassion, and service, with a strong focus on social justice and living out Gospel values. These experiences help students understand their faith in action and how it shapes their interactions with others and the world around them.
Prayer
Prayer is a meaningful part of daily life at Our Lady of Fatima School. Each classroom provides regular opportunities for students to engage in prayer, fostering a personal and communal connection with God. Our school prayer is used to unite our community in faith, and students also participate in whole-school prayer services that honour significant days in both the Australian calendar and the liturgical year.
Liturgy
Liturgical celebrations are a meaningful part of the faith life of our school. Every year, each class from Pre-Primary to Year Two coordinates a whole-school liturgy, providing students with the opportunity to lead prayer and reflect on key themes in the liturgical calendar. Additionally, each class from Years Three to Six plan a whole-school Eucharistic celebration for the whole school to participate in. All students from Years One to Six attend Parish Mass once per term, offering a special opportunity to worship alongside parishioners and strengthen our connection with the wider faith community.
Sacraments
The celebration of the Sacraments is a significant part of our students’ faith journey. In Year Three, our Catholic students prepare for and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, deepening their understanding of forgiveness and God’s mercy. In Year Four, they celebrate their First Eucharist, marking a special moment of unity with Christ through the sacrament of Holy Communion. In Year Six, students receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, affirming their commitment to their faith and receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Charity
We are committed to living out the Gospel values through acts of service and compassion. Throughout the year, our students and families support a range of charitable initiatives, including Caritas’ Project Compassion, Archbishop Costelloe’s LifeLink Appeal, and the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal through our parish. In Term 3, we focus our fundraising efforts on supporting our Sister School, Mbajone School in Kenya, run by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions. As a school community, we also contribute to Fatima Care, a parish initiative that provides meals to those in need in the local area. At Christmas, our staff come together to wrap and donate gifts for Emmaus House, helping to bring joy to those in need.
